Erin Murphy (b. 2001) is a Sydney-born artist living and working upon Cammeraygal and Gadigal land. Her practice involves sampling pictures from non-fictional literature - encyclopaedias, science books, catalogues, and so forth and rephrasing this imagery as the subject of painting. These utilitarian images lose all their usefulness once they have become artworks. She aims to take subjects which are banal, functional, and straightforward, and turn them into something that's funny. Erin refers to her body of work as "The Picture-Dictionary".
