The National Art School acknowledges the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, the traditional owners on whose lands, water and skies we meet and share.

Liss Finney

Liss Finney (b. 1992, Lutruwita/Tasmania) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice investigates the cultural, physical, and psychological negotiations that occur within Western deathways. Through a materially driven sculptural practice, drawing on a family heritage in funeral directing, she examines the boundaries and slippages between artefacts, rituals, and the corporeal realities of decay. Her works function as vessels for reflection on mortality, interweaving memory, material experimentation, and existential philosophy to consider how ritual and objecthood mediate our relationship to death. Finney holds a Bachelor of Natural History Illustration (UoN), and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (NAS). Liss was the recipient of the Clitheroe Foundation Masters Scholarship (2023), and the NAS Tropical LAB residency Prize (2025) and has exhibited both nationally and internationally.
