Nikki Poulos

Nikki Poulos

Nikki Poulos is a multidisciplinary artist whose performative video works critique embedded social conventions and disrupt the status quo. Motivated by a lifetime of directing the male gaze from her breasts to her brain, it is this lived experience which is the impetus for Nikki's feminist perspective. You should smile more is a feminist endurance piece, where Nikki uses a symbol of oppression; the smile, to illustrate the ongoing and exhaustive performative coercion of women in society. The Three Minuteman unwraps culture's deep, phallic unconscious, and is an unapologetic and symbolic dismembering of the patriarchy. Nikki's work disrupts patriarchal codes of representation while conveying a multitude of complex meanings via the simplest gestures, at the same time leaving room for the viewer's own experience and interpretation.
